Silverfish

 

Silverfish are a familiar sight in some older bathrooms and kitchens, but they can be eliminated completely. Some degree of damp is an essential requirement for silverfish to thrive, and the condensation caused by the use of a bath/shower or by cooking is often ideal.


The silver/grey silverfish is around 12mm long, with a shape like a cigar and with three long bristles at the tail. Because they slide off smooth surfaces such as porcelain, enamel and tiles, they can often be seen most easily when they have become trapped in a bath or basin.
